BIOGRAPHY

AZUL : CHARLIE WOOD, WALMIR GIL, WEBSTER SANTOS & CHRIS WELLS

AZUL is a unique international Hammond organ band with a Brazilian twist, centred around the talents of US blues ace CHARLIE WOOD and São Paulo trumpet star WALMIR GIL. Guitarist WEBSTER SANTOS brings the groove from Salvador, Bahia, and the debut album is moulded together with slick contemporary R&B production from London percussionist Chris Wells

ALBUMS

MOTION:PICTURES is the follow-up album to AZUL's eponymously titled debut release. The line-up has been augmented by saxophonist Guto Lucena and guitarist John Parricelli who join founder members Walmir Gil, (trumpet & flugelhorn), Charlie Wood (Hammond B3 & pianos), Webster Santos (guitar) and Chris Wells (drums & percussion) on an eclectic selection of tracks that draw on their collective wealth of experience in jazz, blues and World music fields. These tracks were conceived with film applications in mind, hence the title, and this approach is reflected in the diversity of the tracks, from the understated cool sound of the muted trumpet and tenor sax in “Storybook” to the funk influenced “Indigo”, via the Brazilian rhythms of “What Lies Ahead”
